Atlantic Test Labs (ATL) is proud to support the University of Maryland as they launch the first Master’s Program in Medical Cannabis to be offered in the U.S. Select staff from Atlantic Test Labs will participate as industry professionals to provide guest lectures. Independent of the program, ATL is also offering an internship position at its facilities in Millersville, Maryland. Additionally, one of ATL’s scientists, Savannah Reedy is enrolled in the Master’s program.
Savannah, a recent University of Maryland Biology graduate, knew she wanted to pursue a graduate degree, but wasn’t sure which direction to take. She has several family members who benefit from medical cannabis and as she started work at Atlantic Test Labs, her eyes were opened to the vast potential of this fast growing industry. When she learned her alma mater was launching a new graduate program focused on medical cannabis, it was a perfect fit. Savannah started with the very first classes offered this fall and was excited to find a wide range of fellow students bringing perspectives from every aspect of the industry, from: business, law, physicians, nurses, growers, producers, dispensaries, and more. She also noted there are a number of international students enrolled in the unique program. Savannah says, “We’ll be learning about all aspects of the industry, with classes on pharmaceutical chemistry, policy and law, as well as the therapeutic side including patient care and clinical studies. They also plan to bring in a range of professionals — like my colleagues here at Atlantic Test Labs — to keep us on the leading edge of this fast evolving industry.”
The program’s full title is Master of Science (MS) in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics and it is offered by the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP). According to the University, the program is designed, “To provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to support patients and the medical cannabis industry, add to existing research in the field, and develop well-informed medical cannabis policy.” U of MD’s new Medical Cannabis Master’s program is based at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland and is a two-year program designed for individuals who have completed an undergraduate degree and are interested in pursuing a career in the medical cannabis industry.
